LEONARD KAHAN, AAA, APPRAISER OF AFRICAN ART
Leonard Kahan, former owner of the L. Kahan Gallery of African art in New York City holds a BFA from Pratt Institute and MFA from Brooklyn College. Leonard taught art at Brooklyn and Queens Colleges in New York.
He has traveled extensively in West and Central Africa over a 30-year period, collecting and studying the art as well as observing the workshops in Liberia, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Rep. Du Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon and D.R. Congo. Through these travels and 51 years of experience in the field, Kahan has developed a profound understanding of West and Central African artwork and the cultures who created it.
Leonard has been a certified member of the Appraiser’s Association of America since 1980, Leonard has also worked with numerous scholars in the field publishing over thirty books and exhibition catalogues on African art.
